Today is a sad day in fashion, legendary designer Oscar De la Renta has passed away. The legendary designer passed away on October 20th from an unknown cause. The designer has been in the industry for fifty years and was one of the great influencers in the fashion industry. The Dominican Designer got his start in the industry at Balenciaga, doing illustrations for the couture house. Soon after he created his first dress for the U.S. ambassador’s daughter, who was featured on the cover of life magazine wearing his dress. Through his past work experience with designers like Antonio del Castillo, Elizabeth Arden and Jane Derby, De la Renta was able to start his own company. Breast Cancer Awareness

In the month of October there are allot of events going on, but one event in particular that affects most people is Breast Cancer. This month is Brest cancer awareness month and fashion has taken a step in participating in this cause. The CFDA ( Council of Fashion Designers of America) has started a foundation called Fashion Targets Breasts Cancer (FTBC) that is a charitable foundation that raises awareness and funds for the breast cancer cause in the U.S. and Internationally. Both foundations has different parts of the industry helping with the cause. Including fashion designers from U.S. and internationally, leading retailers, both models and celebrities, fashion photographers, media, advertisement, and PR firms. Mainline Marketplace Shops

On October 3rd, Immaculata University held another MainLine event. The marketplace shops event where local shop and boutique owners came to the great hall of the university and featured fabulous items; with the help from some of the fashion students from the school.  Some of the shops that were included were Stella & Dot which has fabulous jewelry that customers are able to customize their necklaces with a name or a word. Another shop that was included was Darci by Di Caprio Cosmetics. This shop includes makeup and cosmetic tools that are organic and made out of natural material. Main Line Fashion week has started! Last night was the start of Main Line Fashion week, kicking off with an Industry Panel discussion about the fashion industry. The panel included Ted Rossi, Sarah Bond, and Brynn Harbert to name a few. Besides the Industry Panel, some other Main line fashion week events that will be occurring through out the week will be a fashion show on October 1st from 6-9pm and a Marketplace shop event on Oct. 3rd from 6-9pm.
