During my internship I had the opportunity to take a trip to New York and attend two trade shows, Fame and the Intermezzo. It was a great experience. Depending on what side of the fashion industry you’re working in, the buying process is different. There are vendors who are the ones who sell the product to retailers. If a buyer works for a large company like Macy’s, then they could potentially be buying products for 400 stores. If a buyer works for a company like QVC, then they buy for only a specific department, such as footwear. If you are an owner of a small business, such as a boutique, then 9 times out of 10 you are the buyer. A buyer can purchase products through a vendor catalog, online, a one on one meeting with the vendor, or...

From setting up the chairs to the models walking, the fashion show was a success! The Great Hall at Immaculata University was transformed into a glamorous scene with a red carpet at the entrance.  Earlier in the day the clothing was being hung on the racks, models were getting hair done, and magazines along with goodie bags were laid on the chairs for the guests.  Delicious food was available as everyone enjoyed the music and entered a chance to win the raffles.  When the show started, the gorgeous models were dressed in the beautiful garments from the various boutiques and shops.  Cameras were flashing, and music was bumping! Not only did everyone have fun, but they got to see new designs and...

Philly Fashion week is in full bloom, starting with Phashion Phest’s 20th Anniversary event. On September 17th a couple Immaculata students attended the event at the shops in Liberty Place, volunteering for Sharon Waxman the CEO of SPW Productions, LLC. The type of work that was involved for the show was setting up chairs, moving tables, seating guests, dressing models, and handling gift bags. For some it seems like a day’s work, but for these fashion students it’s the usual conquest.                                                                                                                                   The event was sponsored by Wells Fargo, Skinny Girl Cocktails, IBEW Local Union 98, KYW News radio, and the Center City district ( The participants in the show included Adolf Biecker Spa/Salon, Black Label Salon and Spa, Drexel University, ellelauri, imbue, Nichole Miller Philadelphia, Philadelphia fashion incubator and the Art Institute of Philadelphia to name a...

Posted by on Apr 23, 2014 in Facts, Fun Activites, Interview, Student Spotlight, Students | Comments Off on May 2014 Graduates: Brittany Staub

Brittany Staub is earning her Bachelors of Science in Fashion with a major in Fashion Merchandising and minors in Buying and Marketing. Her stylish and trendy fashion is what will keep her hipped in the industry. One interesting fact: Although I am a fashion major, I am also a singer and have been singing since I was 5 years old. Who is your favorite designer? I love Zac Posen and Rachel Zoe.  They both have such unique styles that are so chic and very fashionable. What trends do you love? The trend that I love that keeps coming back is the lace incorporation.  Although I can’t personally pull it off, I think it looks amazing on the models wearing the clothing in fashion shows for clothing lines specializing in these trends.  For the Spring/Summer 2014 season, there is a...
